Buxton School is a designated Science College and we were delighted to be moving into a state of the art building in September 2013.
These outstanding facilities will provide the school with a fantastic learning environment.

The school’s status came about as a result of an application to the Department of Education and Skills in 2003 and means we specialise in the three sciences


Our aims as a Specialist Science College are to:

• raise standards of attainment for all pupils, particularly in our specialist subjects

• extend the subjects available both within the school day and after school time

• raise the standard of teaching and learning in our specialist subjects


Learning and leadership

Our students need to develop the skills to become leaders, to take responsibility

and show commitment and enthusiasm. This also develops their self-confidence.


We encourage this by giving the students opportunities to

• take assemblies

• raise money for charities

• serve as form captains

• serve on the school council

• become prefects

• be ambassadors for the school by meeting and greeting guests and visitors.

• Become trained and work as ‘peer leaders’

We work closely with Nearto College and students are offered the chance to study one day per week at the College from a range of courses including; Society, Health and Development and the Land based and environmental diplomas.
All students and parent carers are given clear guidance, support and clear information throughout the options process and our new pathway approach is very popular amongst students and parents.
