The school strongly believes in an ethical Dress Code for all pupils from the Nursery to Year 11, maintaining the very highest standards of dress and appearance appropriate to the learning environment. School uniform is perceived by parents, employers and members of the local community as improving discipline, raising standards and reducing peer pressure and bullying. We accept that school uniform should not be so expensive as to leave pupils or their families feeling socially excluded. Parents have a crucial role to play in supporting their children in schools and getting the best possible start in life, and we welcome their support for our Dress Code which clearly has an impact on supporting good behaviour and high standards in our school. All items of uniform will be sold at the school. Parents/Carers will be able to come in at published, specific times during the summer holidays and during term time to purchase items. Some items of uniform are available in local supermarkets and parents/carers are welcome to purchase those if they wish as long as they are in line with our Dress Code. These are:
In addition: A plain suitably warm practical coat needs to be worn. Plain black shoes need to be worn. School book bags and rucksacks with the school crest will be sold from the school uniform shop. Jewellery for the primary phase is not recommended unless it is of religious significance.
Secondary Phase
In addition: Plain, dark coloured outdoor coats with front opening. ‘Hoodies’ are not permitted.Hats are not allowed to be worn on the school site. Jewellery is limited to wearing a wrist watch and one small, gold or sliver coloured stud per ear. Face piercings of any kind are not permitted. Plain black shoes with black laces and no embellishments are to be worn. Considerable movement is necessary, including several staircases. No patterned tights, coloured socks, over the knee socks or leg warmers are permitted.
School uniform is viewed as a mark of the school’s values. Pupils who do not adhere to our dress code are regarded as undermining the authority of the school. We, therefore, expect the utmost co-operation from parents. Infringements of the school’s dress code are discussed with primary parents and within the secondary phase are recorded and monitored and action taken. T All items are available from the school and some items are available from clothing outlets in the local area. It is important that the spirit of the uniform is adhered to and fashion items should not be purchased as replacements for the official uniform. We advise that all clothing and other items should be clearly marked with the pupil’s name. Parents and pupils are urged to note and follow the spirit as well as the letter of our Dress Code.
