Art and Design is taught from Key Stage 1 up to Key Stage 4. In addition we also offer BTEC Art & Design and AS and A Level Art & Design. Pupils cover a great range of diverse topics in all year groups and are encouraged to make creative and individual work. Many pupils that leave Buxton School go onto study Art at Leyton Sixth Form and recently students have then gone onto Edinburgh University and London College of Fashion. The Art Department offers many ways for pupils to develop their creative skills outside of lessons. These include our annual Key Stage 2 and 3 Exhibition, the annual GCSE Exhibition, a Multi-Cultural Celebration Evening, specialist workshops including jewellery making; trips to Tate Modern, the Serpentine Gallery, National Gallery and National Portrait Gallery. We also offer pupils the chance to get involved in the annual London Thames Festival.

The Art Department of Buxton School is creative, successful and committed to teaching and learning. We aim to inspire pupils and offer them opportunities to engage imaginatively in art, craft and design. Through all key stages, our projects account for the diversity within our school and we aim to make pupils progression in their work meaningful and exciting. A wide variety of methods and processes are taught including drawing, painting, printing, ceramics, 3D work, textiles and digital media which enable pupils to express their own individuality and ideas about the world in which they live.
