Nursery POSTER NEWWW2

Nursery

Nursery Education at Buxton School is for children aged between 3 years and 4 years, on a part-time or full-time basis. Full-time is only for eligible 30hours entitlement parents.   The Free Early Years entitlement, as with all Nurseries and Nursery classes, becomes available once a child reaches 2 years old (Buxton School from 3 years and a term).

Parents/carers interested in a nursery place for their child are asked to contact the School office of Buxton School directly. Forms to request a Nursery place are available from the main school office.  We advise parents/carers to put their child’s name on our waiting list when the child is about 2 years old.

There are 78 part-time places and we cannot guarantee to offer either a morning or an afternoon place, although we do try to take parents’/carers wishes and circumstances into consideration when places are allocated. We also offer full-time places for 30 hour eligible parents. Please see more information about eligibility at:

Child Care Choices

Children are expected to attend regularly and punctually. They should be brought and collected by a known adult and the Foundation Stage staff informed of any changes to arrangements. Snack time is an important part of the daily routine.  We ask for a contribution of 50p a week to cover the cost of baking ingredients used in cooking and other minor expenses.

Reception

The Local Authority sends information for application to Reception to the school one academic year before the child is due into school. Applications are sent directly to the Local Authority. Please see the Admissions section on this website for further information.

Parent/carers are able to apply by post or online. Admissions will notify parents/carers in March/April before they are due to start school in September. The school will also contact parents/carers by letter, the term before children are due to start school.

There is a single point of entry for all Reception aged children. The principle of the single point of entry is that all pupils receive the same length of education at the Foundation Stage. If parents/carers do have any concerns about their child’s allocated place, or if parents/carers are thinking of choosing to defer the start date, they should contact the school to discuss this.

Once the Reception place has been allocated to a child, the school will contact parents/carers and invite them to a series of visits to support parents/carers and children to settle into the school routine.

This will be an opportunity to meet the Head of School, Foundation Managers, your child’s teacher and spend time in the Reception classes. During these visits, the children will experience activities that are typical of the Foundation Stage Curriculum.

During the first visit, the parents/carers will have a meeting with the Executive Head, Head of School, Assistant Head and the Foundation Stage Manager to listen to a presentation, after this parents/carers will be invited to walk around the school to familiarise themselves with the school layout.

Parents/carers are encouraged to contact the school at any time prior to starting if they have any concerns regarding the smooth admission of their child to the Foundation Stage.
