On Monday 12th October, both Year 10 Drama classes enjoyed an exciting visit to the National Theatre on London’s South Bank, where they were given a fascinating insight into the world of professional theatre.

Students took part in a guided backstage tour of the National Theatre’s three performance spaces, learning about the history of this iconic, Grade II* listed building and the many people who contribute to bringing productions to life.

With over 1,000 people working at the National Theatre, students discovered the huge variety of careers available within the performing arts industry. They explored backstage areas, including prop-making workshops and set construction spaces, and learned about the important roles played by stage managers, production managers, technicians, stage crews and designers.

A particular highlight was learning about the National Theatre’s celebrated production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, adapted by Simon Stephens, which students are studying as part of their Drama course. This provided a valuable opportunity to connect their classroom learning with the professional theatre industry.

The visit was a fantastic experience for everyone, broadening students’ understanding of the creativity, collaboration and technical expertise required to produce live theatre.

Well done to all our Year 10 Drama students for their excellent behaviour and enthusiasm throughout the visit. They were a credit to the school!
