GCSE PE Sports Science
Theory Content- 60% of Overall Grade
By the end of the course you should have knowledge and understanding of:
Component 1 - Fitness and Body Systems (30%):
- Applied Anatomy and Physiology
- Movement Analysis
- Physical Training
- Use of Data
Assessment: 1 hour and 15 minutes exam (78 marks)
Component 2 - Health and Performance (30%):
- Health, Fitness and Well-Being
- Sport Psychology
- Socio-Cultural Influences
- Use of Data
Assessment: 1 hour and 15 minutes exam (78 marks)
Both exams are made up of multiple choice, short answer questions and extended answer questions.
Practical Performance- 30% of Overall Grade
You have the opportunity to be assessed in:
- Football
- Basketball
- Trampolining
- Table Tennis
- Cricket
- Badminton
- Netball
- Rock Climbing
- Handball
- Athletics
- In addition if you compete or participate to a high standard for a club or organisation you can possibly arrange to be assessed in that activity - please speak to the Head of PE.
Assessment: Sport is internally marked and then externally moderated. Pupils must have one individual sport, one team sport and one choice (which the PE department will advise). 75 marks available (25 marks per sport).
Analysis of Performance (AoP)- 10% of Overall Grade
Pupils will analyse and evaluate their performance in one of their three chosen sport.
Assessment: Controlled Assessment (25 marks)
